Braided Floor Rug

Quite a lot of years ago [probably about 10] i braided up a whole heap of hessian to make some floor rugs. This is the leftover bag. I dug it out of the wardrobe on monday when i was looking for something else.

A big needle and some cotton string is all you need to lash it together, oh and hands of steel. By the time your finished you will need to soak your hands in something warm and then apply lots of hand cream.

Three hours later and this is the result.

Its a little slippery on the floor, so i will have to get Mr GoingGreen to put a few rows of silicon on the back.
The last time i had one of these mats at the front door Sally Girl kept chewing it and every time i fixed it she would chew a bit more. We will see how long this one lasts.

I still had some left over braids so i made a couple of rope toys for Sally Girl, they wont last long but thats ok. New toys are always good, especially chewable ones.

Crochet T-Shirt Rug

i have finally finished my T-Shirt Rug. i started it in June 2008. for those who have not seen this before it is made up of all my boys t-shirts that i have collected over the years.
cut off all the seams & sleeves, then do a continuous cut 2cm [1inch] & roll into a ball. i used a 6.5mm steel hook. all single crochet.

lots of ends to weave in

the finished size is 1meter x 1.3 meters. it weighs 5kg & has 97 rows.

this took so long to make for two reasons,
1 i had to wait for the t-shirts
2 it is very hard on my hand & wrist so i could only work on it for short periods of time. i think it turned out great, now to keep Miss Sally Girl off it will be a challenge.

this mat is made up of hessian braided together & sewn together with brickies string. i made this for my foot peddle as i was sick of it sliding.

Blogtoberfest day 24

What can you make with a few pairs of shorts, 2 flannel shirts, a couple of cotton button up shirts, a dress & part of a flannel sheet

a mat of course

i started braiding this fabric about 5 years ago, yesterday morning i saw them spilling out onto my sewing table & decided to see if i could sew them together on my sewing machine. it was quite tight under the foot but i managed to get it together, had a bit more braiding to do to get it finished. i think it turned out pretty good. parts of the straight sides have a bit of a curl that the iron could not get out.
it now has a home under J's computer table, to keep his feet warm.
i am so pleased to have finished of an item that has been floating around for so long unfinished.
