Tuppaware Cupboard

Does your tupperware cupboard look like this ?
Lids, containers, jars and any number of other items that gets put in there. Chuck it in and close the cupboard real quick before it all falls out, its amazing how quickly it becomes out of control.

I think that the jam and peanut butter jars are multiplying when the door is closed and why are there more lids than jars.

I pulled it all out and sorted it into washing baskets. Because i have so many glass jars i decided to make a shelf to utilise the space better and hopefully keep them in better order.

I started out with an off cut piece of ply. This was left over from my wood box that Mr GoingGreen made.
Measured the hight of the jam jars and how long i wanted the shelf. I used the jigsaw to cut the top and both legs. Gave them a quick sand and glued and nailed them together.

There was only one small piece leftover and that went into the off cuts bucket.

I decided to add a piece at the back to make sure the legs don't move about over time, also a piece from the off cuts bucket. The shelf only took 30 mins at most to make.

Here it is finished with all my jars stacked on top.
I have made these before for my pantry, they are very easy to make and they extend your pantry space. They are great for packets or small jars, especially if your pantry is deep.

It feels good to get things organised and tidy.

There were a number of things that did not make it back into the cupboard and even after i took this photo a couple more items were removed.
The blue and brown ice cream containers hold all the jar lids. Being able to grab it out makes it easier when i need to find the right lid.
All the tuppaware bases are sorted by size and so are the lids, they are stored in a large container so again easy to pull out to find the right lid and also easy when putting them away.

Do you have a cupboard that you have to chuck stuff in and close the door or are you more of a everything in its place type.
For me pretty much the only cupboard that gets like this is the tupperware cupboard all the rest have everything in its place even my Draws, ask me where anything is and i can put my hand on it straight away.

New Gates

we did not have a back gate so all the kangaroos & other wildlife would come in & eat all my veggies so i put up to pieces of iron in September. it has worked pretty well.

now that we have Sally it just wasn't good enough so yesterday we purchased 2 farm gates.
the ground is nowhere near level so one is a bit higher than the other & there was a bit of a gap but we solved that with some iron attached to one of the gates & chicken wire over the mesh down to the ground, so little Sally can not wiggle through.

while working on the gates a neighbour who we have not met but who has a great veggie garden out the back {i am always walking down to have a look at their garden} popped down to ask we would like some cucumbers as they had way too many, smiling i said yes please & he handed over 4 large green cucumbers. cucumbers are my fav salad food i pretty much eat them every day. i think his name was Brian {im not good with names, so it will be Brian unless i find out other wise} asked if we would like some corn for the chooks as it was not good enough for the kitchen & of course said yes. he came back with a bag full of sweet corn & at lease a dozen sunflower heads. we chatted about his garden & my chooks for a bit & i offered him some eggs when the girls start to lay, then he was on his way back to his gardening.

i hope this is the beginning of new friends & new things to learn.
oh & last nights cucumber had a very mellow taste mmmm {dont ya just hate bitter cucumbers}

Day 8- Building & Baking Sunday

The Weather Forecast
we had some beautiful rain of Saturday night

today it was back to the usual, warm & sunny

day 7 was lost in a day of busy bees.

digging up a side garden, weeding, newspaper, fresh dirt & mulch.

ironing- not a compulsive iron-er {is that even a word}, i usually wait until all of my clothes need doing before i get out the iron & board, & if i need something then ill iron it just before i put it on, but 9 times out of 10 ill just shake it out & put it on anyway.

today A, & i built the gate for the chicken run, a ramp up to the hen house & a nesting box.
painted the gate & ramp with the last of the Green paint, will new to buy more to give them a second coat.

New Roof & todays stuff

today the builder came & put up the new roof on our back veranda, as some of you may remember the old one blew off. well the new one goes all the way to the end of the house so no more getting wet. i can sit out there rain or shine & my no more running out there every time it rains to cover up my Ringnecks.

spent the morning knitting, my new friend Jacqui has asked for 5 knitted dish cloths so i best get cracking.

i also started a new crochet rug in Baby Blue & White { i needed a new project for on the train}

made vanilla ice cream from scratch, i got the recipe & inspiration from Julie at her Simple Cooking Blog, thanks Julie :o)

also made a start on a couple of new pincushions, photos later

tomorrow our first delivery arrives from Landtasia Organic Beef {link on the side bar}
1 side of Beef cut to our specifications, vacuum packed in meal size portions.

we haven't mowed the back lawn for quite a few months so all the grass is in seed & as i type this there are at least 30 rosellas & twice that of Red Browed Finches & House Sparrows all feasting on the seeds, its quite noisy with them all chatting away but its a nice site to see.
